Good News

Most of what I have written on this website is intended for those who have already received Jesus by faith, i.e., those who are Christians. But in case you are reading this and are not a Christian, let me give you a simple explanation of what that means.

First of all, becoming a Christian is not about attending church meetings every Sunday or learning to live by a strict set of religious rules. Becoming a Christian is all about Jesus Christ and what He did and what He is still doing for us today.

What does that mean?

Let me start at the beginning. God created the heavens and the earth and all that is in it, including man. He placed Adam and Eve in a beautiful place called the Garden of Eden where He provided for all their needs. Tempted by a serpent we know to be Satan, Adam and Eve disobeyed God (ate from a forbidden tree). God had warned them that if they ate from this tree they would die. And that is exactly what happened. Adam and Eve died spiritually, thus they were separated from the life of God. Consequently, all mankind is born separated from the life of God with a sin debt they cannot pay.

In God’s economy, only the blood of a sinless person can pay man’s sin debt. Because of His great love for us, God sent His Son Jesus to do what no other person could do. Jesus willingly shed His blood and gave His life on a cross to pay for man’s sin. He offers this gift of forgiveness of sin and a new life to all who would receive Him by faith. The consequence of rejecting that gift is eternal separation from God in a place the Bible calls hell.

What must I do to receive this forgiveness?

Simply acknowledge that you are a sinner in need of a savior, then put your faith in what Jesus did – died on the cross, was buried, and was resurrected on the third day after He was buried. Know this – the free gift of salvation has nothing to do with how good you have been or how bad you have been!

God’s word says it this way -

8  For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9  not as a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

When this happens, all your sin is forgiven – every past, present and future act of sin. God also removes your old heart and spirit and gives you a new heart and a new spirit. And more, He also gives you His Holy Spirit to live with you forever. You begin a never-ending relationship with the person of Jesus Christ. Please understand, this is all done the moment you receive Christ by faith.

The Bible then calls us to repent which means to have a change of mind that leads to a change of behavior. This is an ongoing process guided by the Holy Spirit that lives within you.

So, why not choose life?

And lastly, you don’t have to be in a church building or with a professional minister to talk with God. You can speak to HIm right now wherever you may be. He sees your heart. Cry out to Him and He will save you. Can you think of any reason not to begin a new life with Jesus right now?
